The Results are in…
Results day is finally upon us… It’s a memorable day for most people but its not all badly co-ordinated jumping for joy and symbolically burning your school books; some people will have done amazingly well, some people won’t have been quite as successful as they’d hoped. If either of those people are you, here are some things you should know…
The Good
If you’re happy with your results its totally OK to be proud of yourself. First up, give yourself an enormous high five for getting it done. You clearly worked hard for it and you did well, go you!
The Bad
Ok so things didn’t quite go to plan or you were expecting better? Don’t panic. First things first: Its totally OK to be average. If you got mediocre results, that’s cool and it’s definitely not a bad thing.
The negative connotations of averageness are silly, why is it a bad thing to do OK?! As hard as it may seem, try to avoid comparing yourself to other people. One person’s C- is the next person’s A*. Whether you scraped a pass or got a bit of a surprise, you still passed! Now you can relax, enjoy it!
The Ugly
Albert Einstein once said:
“Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it is stupid”.
Ok, so you failed… Don’t panic. Things really aren’t as bad as they might seem right now. Exams may seem like they are the most important thing in the world, but in reality they are just one aspect of life and there are loads of opportunities out there to re-take exams should you wish to do so. Alternatively, why not focus on vocational studies or nurture your other strengths, you’ll probably surprise yourself with your abilities! Dealing with failure can be difficult and it’s something that most of us fear but with failure comes resilience, so pick yourself and up try again or experiment with a new direction. Not everyone is academic… and that’s OK.
Now, relax…
There are exciting things ahead! All in all, you’re done with exams for now, and you deserve a break. Enjoy the rest of the summer and think about your next move when you’re well rested and had time to think….
