From Liam Hackett, CEO:
Ditch the Label is a charity that was founded as a result of my own personal experiences of being bullied for 10-years as a child. Since launching the organisation 4 years ago, our growth has been exponential and beyond my wildest dreams. We consistently find, from our research, that 1 in 2 young people will experience bullying at some point. As a result of the bullying, self-harm and suicide increases, health deteriorates and grades drop – something that I find all too relatable from my time at school. My vision for Ditch the Label has always been to innovate and find the solutions to the growing social epidemic that bullying is. Since we launched, we have continuously produced world-class research to better understand the dynamics and behaviours of bullying, all of which has fed into the support that we provide to young people online. In 2015, we helped 180,000 young people to overcome bullying through support available on our website, across social media and through our partnership with Habbo.
Today, I am excited to make two major announcements which will both revolutionise the support we provide and will change the lives of millions worldwide.
1.) We are launching internationally: we are launching internationally and soon our support will be available in multiple countries and languages. By the end of 2016, Ditch the Label will be available across the entire USA and Mexico.
2.) We are increasing the amount of support we provide: we are revolutionising the way in which we provide support through a pioneering new website, utilising purpose-built technology. We will be phasing in the new website and technology over the next 6-months. In 2016, it is estimated that 0.5M people will benefit from Ditch the Label’s support.
Our approach has always been to empower young people; building their resilience, strength and skills, to enable them to resolve their own situations with our support. We are the only anti-bullying organisation to help the people who are doing the bullying to overcome their own issues as a way of preventing the bullying from happening in the first place, because we recognise that bullying is a behaviour and not an identity. Like all behaviours, there is a root cause and a remedy for change. Our unique and bold approach has been hugely successful and we are making an enormous difference to thousands of young people each week.
Over the coming months, we will be making some incredibly exciting announcements about our work, partnerships and our new digital support programs so don’t forget to follow us on Twitter for the latest. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support. This really is a huge moment for us and we are so excited to be sharing it with you.
