We interviewed model and singer Chloe-Jasmine about her experiences with cyberbullying
DtL: Hi Chloe! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Chloe-Jasmine: I am a primate 🙂
DtL: Have you ever experienced bullying/cyberbullying/trolling? If so what happened and how did you overcome it?
Chloe-Jasmine: My online bullying was unbearable in 2014. I dreaded getting up in the morning to endure the tirade of negative and untrue fairy tales which would stick to me like tar. I felt powerless and vulnerable. This continued into 2016 when I would constantly be discriminated against because of attitudes towards my relationship; this led to paralysing feelings of anxiety and helplessness. However, everyone is entitled to an opinion…we all have trials and tribulations and no one is perfect. Until you have walked in someone else’s wellingtons you cannot appreciate how they have experienced life. All pain is relative. I have always been an introvert and fiercely private and sensitive. I feel empathy for individuals who are compelled to project their assumptions and unhelpful criticism into the universe. We have to send them love to bandage their hatred.

DtL: What advice would you give to those that are being bullied?
Chloe-Jasmine: Continue to be you. Remember that the only thing you can control are your own thoughts and feelings; people can only understand from their own level of warped perception. These people have the inability to untangle subjective schemas from objective reality. YOU are the person who needs help here and there is no pain, no shame, only motivation. Have the courage to reach out and do not become a shell because of it. If the abuse is online, report or block. Make your accounts private. Do NOT give them the gratification of thinking they can make you dull your light and feel inferior. Stand tall and do not drink their poison. We have one life and we cannot spend it in our own personal hell.
DtL: How did you find the Big Brother experience?
Chloe-Jasmine: I was incredibly apprehensive, and brought my partner at the time on the rider 😊. For the first few hours it was super fun! It was tough being nominated practically every time for the public vote – I worked out that I am unable to cope with hair extensions or egocentrics. We are all human…flawed and special..and so wonderfully damaged. I commend the hard working team on producing such a gripping show.

DtL: What are the best and worst things about being in the public eye?
Chloe-Jasmine: If one can use their influence to support and endorse worthy causes – excellent! The worst – you can feel violated and under extreme scrutiny.
I feel I have had a lucky escape. I have had to do a considerable amount of soul searching recently. You have to write your own story…not live in one contrived by others. Based on my gut instinct, I have turned down the vast majority of assignments based on my gut. You are not obliged to say “YES” to everything. Stay true to yourself and your beliefs and you cannot go wrong. Do not lose yourself in the madness. Your health and loved ones should be priorities…it can be so awful for others seeing someone they love destroyed.
DtL: If you could go back in time, what one thing would you tell your younger self?
Chloe-Jasmine: Carry on darling!

DtL: What has been your proudest moment so far?
Chloe-Jasmine: My first breath at Birth!
DtL: What does the future hold for Chloe-Jasmine?
Chloe-Jasmine: Work-wise I am working on some films, gigging, shooting several campaigns and working on a clothing line. I was very apprehensive about getting back into modelling, as my head was littered with the unkind comments regarding my weight and appearance…and then I thought – I am sacrificing what I love to do, silencing myself and stepping inward and as a result I am feeling awful.
DtL: What are your most prominent challenges and how do you overcome them?
Chloe-Jasmine: The trick is to keep a positive mind…to deal with issues as they come and take everything one day at a time. If it goes wrong, try again. Do not beat yourself up and be grateful for what you have. Comparison is the thief of joy and it pains me that young individuals are bombarded with it. You are YOU and that is YOUR power.
