Gender stereotypes are generalisations about the differences and roles of individuals and/or groups.
The Gender Report 2016 highlights the fact that women are perceived to be emotional, compassionate and best suited to bringing up a family – whereas men are seen as being strong, brave and better at managing a business.
Pressure to conform to these stereotypes can have serious implications for a young person’s mental health. At Ditch the Label, we know that your gender doesn’t determine your personality; a woman isn’t born gentle and a man isn’t born strong – behaviours are learnt and these identities have been constructed for us. But we know this can change.
If you need any help or advice, or just someone to talk to, do not hesitate to reach out to Ditch the Label – we are here for you.
